Keep the journey moving.

Practical fixes for adding or recording a route, editing your journey, managing a plan and saving your video.

Quick checks for common issues.

My route will not open

  • Share the full journey from Google Maps, rather than a single place or search result.
  • Make sure every stop appears correctly in Google Maps before you share it.
  • If you are using a shortened link, check that your device is online.
  • If the route came from another app, try saving it there as a GPX file.

The map or route is unavailable

  • Check your connection and try again after a short pause.
  • Open Settings to check whether the route service is working.
  • A temporary service problem can stop place search or route building.
  • If you see an error, wait a few minutes before trying again.

My video will not save

  • Choose one of the video quality options available on your device.
  • Make sure your device has the amount of free space shown on the save screen.
  • Keep AnimateMyRoute open while it creates the video.
  • If a large video fails, try 720p or the standard 30 fps setting.

Adding a route

Google Maps route

In Google Maps, create the journey with all the stops you want, then choose Share. Paste the link into AnimateMyRoute. If a stop is missing clear location details, the app will ask you to fix the route instead of guessing the place.

GPX file

Your GPX file needs at least two points. If it will not open, create a fresh copy from the app that created it and choose the standard GPX format. Simply changing another file's name to end in .gpx will not convert it.

Manual route

Searching for places needs an internet connection. Include a town, county or full address so the app can find the right place. If search is temporarily unavailable, try again later or start with a GPX file.

Recording a journey

AnimateMyRoute asks for location permission only when you choose to record. Start the recording before you set off and keep the persistent recording notification enabled. The app can continue recording in the background until you explicitly finish the journey.

On the review screen you can trim the beginning or end, remove an unwanted section, add stop markers or extend the route. Those edits create a new view for the animation; the original raw recording remains unchanged.

Using a photo of your vehicle

Choose a bright, clear photo where the vehicle stands out from the background. The app removes the background privately on your device. If it cannot find the vehicle, try a less cluttered photo with stronger contrast. You can use the brush tools to tidy the result.

Previewing and saving your video

The saved video will follow what you see in the preview. If the journey feels too fast, make the animation longer or add pauses at important stops. Videos are saved without sound, ready for you to add music or narration in your usual video editor.

You can choose portrait, landscape or square. AnimateMyRoute only offers the video size and smoothness settings your Android device can handle. Some older devices may still let you edit and preview a project even if they cannot save the finished video.

Projects, backups and storage

Your projects stay on your device. Deleting one will not delete videos you have already saved. Before uninstalling the app or clearing its storage, save an .animatemyroute backup somewhere safe. You can clear temporary files in Settings without losing finished projects.

AnimateMyRoute Plus

The free app includes the core tools for creating and exporting a route animation. AnimateMyRoute Plus unlocks premium intros and outros, additional map and route styles, advanced titles, 3D terrain, custom photo cutouts and an ad-free experience while your membership is active. New premium creative tools may be added to Plus over time.

Monthly and yearly billing are available. Google Play shows the current local price, billing period and offer terms before you subscribe. You can manage or cancel through Google Play at any time. If Plus is missing after a reinstall or device change, open the membership screen and choose Restore subscription while signed in to the Google Play account that made the purchase. Referral codes can be entered on the same screen to unlock any eligible special pricing.

If your membership ends, Plus-only choices stop appearing in previews and exports. Your original Plus projects remain saved, and the app can create a separate free-compatible copy so you can keep editing without changing the original.

More common questions

Why does my Google Maps route look different?

AnimateMyRoute uses the stops in your shared link to build a new route. It does not copy the exact route from Google Maps, so it may choose slightly different roads.

Can I work completely offline?

You can open a GPX file and edit a saved project offline, but parts of the map may not load. Searching for places and building a route along roads need an internet connection.

Why are some video options unavailable?

AnimateMyRoute only shows video options your device can handle. If a choice is unavailable, try a smaller video size or the standard 30 frames per second (fps) setting.

Where is my saved video?

Finished videos are saved to your Android device. They should appear in your Gallery or Files app, although this can sometimes take a moment.

How do I restore or manage AnimateMyRoute Plus?

Open Settings and choose the AnimateMyRoute Plus banner. You can restore your membership in the app or manage and cancel it through the Google Play account used for the purchase.

Tell us which version of AnimateMyRoute and Android you use, your device model, what you were trying to do and the exact error you saw. Include the installation ID from Settings > Security & abuse protection. That ID and the approximate time of the problem help us trace a service failure without your search or route. Please only send a private route, GPX file or photo if it is needed and you are comfortable sharing it.
